Turkey has awarded the much-delayed tenders for the motorway connector roads to Istanbul’s Third Bosphorus Bridge.

The 90km motorway section between Kinali and Odayeri was awarded to the Kolin-Kalyon joint-venture with completion in seven years and nine months, according to Turkish media reports. The 170km section between Kurtkoy and Akyazi was awarded to Limak-Cengiz joint-venture which will finish the work in six years and nine months.

Concern has been expressed at the high number of fatalities involving motorcycle users in the US during 2015. Preliminary figures from state authorities show that over 5,000 people were killed in motorcycle crashes in the US over the course of 2015. The full data has yet to be compiled and analysed but these early figures suggest an increase in motorcyclist deaths of 10% for 2014 compared with 2015, or around 450 more people killed than in the year previously. Oman’s roads have shown a gain in safety during the first four months of 2016. Crashes dropped 32% for the first four months of this year, compared with the same period during 2015. However road deaths during the first four months of 2016 increased by 1.4% to 210. In all there were 1,413 crashes in the first four months of 2016, while injuries were reduced by 22.8% to 903.

France has seen an increase in its road fatality rate during 2015. Official figures show that road casualties again increased during 2015, the second consecutive year that this has occurred. Road deaths increased by 2.3% over the figure for 2014 and reached 3,461 in 2015. This increased fatality rate is of note as for the 12 years previous to 2014, France’s road death rate had reduced.
