India’s federal government has sanctioned the construction or upgrading of 2,500km of national level roads in Telangana state. Work should include another ring road around the capital Hyderabad, according to a report in the Times of India newspaper. The head of the state government, chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, said state planning officials will need to come up with a detailed forward plan for transportation in the new state. Serbia will cooperate with Albania on construction of the proposed Nis-Merdare-Prishtina motorway, according to media reports. Serbian vice president and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Zorana Mihajlovic, said that the motorway will be part of a larger project to give faster access, through Pristina, capital of Kosovo, to Albania’s Adriatic Sea port of Drac.

Construction of the €356 million Presov motorway bypass should start in the spring, according Arpad Ersek, Slovakia’s minister for transport. However, no contract has been finalised with the winner of the tender, the consortium of Metrostav Slovakia, Metrostav, Doprastav, and Eurovia.

The Polish government said that it will complete the final 80km section of the A1 motorway at a cost of around €830 million. Analysis into traffic crashes in India has revealed that only around half of the country’s road deaths in 2015/2016 resulted in insurance claims. There were around 146,000 road fatalities in India during this period. The problem has been revealed by India’s Supreme Court. A new bridge project in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City will help cut traffic congestion. The project is expected to cost in the region of US$157 million and four contractors will work on the construction of the 3.2km long Bình Tiên Bridge. The plans call for the bridge to carry four traffic lanes and be from 30-40m wide, although the design has yet to be finalised.
