Colombia key tunnel project – new completion date

A new completion date has been set for the La Linea Tunnel project in Colombia. The work should now be finished in late 2020, although the project was originally intended to be ready by late 2016. The various contracts to complete the Cruce de la Cordillera Central route will be awarded in April 2019 by the national road institute (Invias). Work is starting on Cambodia’s Phnom Penh-Preah Sihanouk Expressway. The 190km route will be the first expressway in Cambodia and the project is costing US$1.9 billion. A series of road upgrades are planned for Colombia’s Boyaca Department for the 2019-2020 period. One of the projects will be for work to a 20km section of the Transversal de Boyaca Route 60, which connects to the Magdalena Medio. Work will also be carried out on the Crucero-Pajarito stretch of the Transversal del Cusiana Route 62, including several bridge upgrades. Breedon, a leading UK and Ireland construction materials group, saw its year-on-year revenue rise by more than £200 million in 2018. Newly published audited figures for the year showed group revenue rose 32% to £862.7 million, compared to £652.4mn in 2017. EU plans to boost road safety

EU plans to improve road safety will include strengthening road infrastructure management, in a bid to reduce road fatalities and serious injuries. The changes will ensure that current rules used for motorways and other primary roads will be extended beyond the trans-European transport network (TEN-T). Construction work is starting on Vietnam’s Van Don-Mong Cai highway. Located in Quang Ninh Province in the north east of Vietnam, the 80km highway will feature two lanes in either direction. Rebuilding Russian bridges

Calls are being made in Russia for investment into rebuilding small bridges. According to the Saint Petersburg Association of Road Complex Enterprises, ASDOR, around US$1.95 billion is required to upgrade, repair or improve small bridges across the country. ASDOR’s research suggests that on average, one small bridge collapses every day in the country.
Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod-Kazan highway project

Planning is underway for the highway connecting Moscow with Kazan, via Nizhny Novgorod. The tendering process will commence in 2020, with construction then expected to commence in either late 2020 or early 2021. A budget for the project has been set by Russia’s state-owned road company, Avtodor. The initial plans called for the highway covering the 742km between Moscow and Kazan to be complete by 2024.
