Road widening means bridge demolition

Two heavy Atlas Copco hydraulic breakers have been used to demolish a bridge on the A40 autobahn at Junction 28 in Gelsenkirchen-Süd, Germany. The bridge was used to carry the four lanes of the A40 over the B277 main road. As the key route in the Ruhr district, the A40 is being widened to incorporate six lanes, so the old bridge needed to be demolished.

The Iowa Department of Transportation in the US has selected Peek's AxleLight non-intrusive laser axle sensors installed in a permanent site along Interstate 35/80 in Des Moines. This is the first time that the AxleLight sensors, normally designed as a temporary study tool, have been installed in permanent roadside cabinets. A seven year old US school boy was so keen to get to school when his parents slept in one morning that he took their car and attempted to drive himself. The boy unfortunately crashed the car en-route, although he only suffered minor injuries and was later discharged from hospital.
