One of the latest innovations from road safety equipment company Nissen is NiNa (Nissen Navigation) Traffic and NiNa Guard, a combination of sophisticated sensor and a traffic counter which collects data on traffic density and speed. Data collected by the system can then be used to warn oncoming motorists by displaying the traffic information and warning on variable message signs.

ROTAFLECTOR fits securely on the top of traffic cones and can replace up to 50% of road danger lamps (every other lamp) in straight line delineation, claims its manufacturer. INO, a world-class centre of expertise in industrial applications for optics and photonics, offers its laser rut easurement system (LRMS), a transverse profiling device that detects and characterises pavement rutting. The organisation says LRMS can acquire full 4m width profiles of a highway lane at normal traffic speeds (up to 100km/hr), using two laser profilers that digitise transverse sections of the pavement.

Some 200 felons have been allowed out of the prison walls to race bicycles around the country, while under close watch from prison guards. A frustrated commuter in the Chinese city of Guangzhou pushed a man off a bridge in an attempt to reduce a traffic delay. A man had been standing on the bridge and threatening to commit suicide, which held up traffic for five hours. Angered by the traffic delays and the huge congestion that had arisen, the commuter jostled his way past a police cordon and shoved the would-be suicide off the bridge. Caterpillar is offering its 301.6 and 301.8 undercarriages to other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
