Following its 2015 acquisition from 695 Doosan by Joy Global, 2396 Montabert has introduced three new small breakers to its product line.

The Silver Clip for special applications, SC36 & SC42 High Temperature, and Silver Clip SC28 for scaling applications.

“Montabert’s rock drill products and rock breakers complement our expanded offerings for the hard rock market, an exciting growth area for Joy Global,”says Ted Doheny, Joy Global CEO and President.

Montabert says its SC36 & SC42 High Temperature are dedicated to all high temperature applications such as crust breaking and cavity cleaning, for mini-excavators or specific dedicated carriers.

The fully equipped 500kg and 560kg hydraulic breakers are said to offer new benefits to customers, including high temperature seals; special long reach tools with high durability and tolerance to heat and heat shielded housing.

The SC28 hydraulic breaker is dedicated to all scaling applications, for mini excavators or scaling machines, and weighs 350kg (fully equipped).

It also offers dust suppression because scaling applications generate a lot of dust and cuttings, which can end up inside the breaker thus decreasing wear parts lifespan and increasing breakage risks.

  • The dark arts of asphalt production

Asphalt production is a complex process featuring many variables - Mike Varner, chief engineer at Astec Inc discussed methods with Mike Woof Asphalt production in a black art in more ways than one. It involves a complex process of mixing bitumen with aggregates under temperature and optimising this operation is crucial to maximise quality. But with so many variables, determining exactly what is going on inside an asphalt plant involves extensive research, sophisticated computer modelling and the use of a
