Ringway has won the contract to build a dual carriageway bypass to ease congestion and improve motorist safety on a notorious section of the A57 in Rotherham, northern England. The US$21.86million (£14mn) A57 Todwick Bypass scheme, contracted out by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, will create a new near 1.6km dual carriageway running from junction 31 of the M1 to the A57’s junction with the B6463.

French off-highway machine manufacturer Manitou reports strong financial performance, despite tough trading conditions. Jean-Christophe Giroux, Manitou president and CEO said, “It’s been another great quarter, that somewhat contrasts with the general perception because we’re at a double inflexion point. This will not materially impact our full year 2012 revenue, which we still forecast to be up 10% vs. 2011, still within our 10-15% guidance. But we’ll adjust our runrates and throughput dynamically.”

The Costanera Central motorway in Chile will require an investment of US$ 1.98bn, according to the country’s Ministry of Public Works (MOPC). The 20km road, which will connect Puente Alto with the Autopista del Sol motorway, will be put to tender in the final quarter of 2013. Construction is due for completion by 2019.

The Nepalese government is inviting overseas firms to submit expressions of interest in taking part in the Kathmandu-Tarai Fast Track Project. The built-operate-transfer-based project will cost over US$ 906.41million (NPR 80bn). The expressway will span across 76kms. PERI has used its cantilever-construction compatable VARIOKIT for the first time in Poland. The engineering build kit was used to build a new 600m long motorway bridge near the southeastern city of Tarnów. Loans from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the EU will finance highway work in Georgia. The funds will be used to pay for the construction of the high-speed motor road running from West – East across Georgia. The EIB will give a long-term preferential credit worth €170 million, while the EU will provide a €20 million grant. As part of the project, a four lane highway measuring 52km will be built from Samtrediya – Grigoleti, while the 16km section Grigoleti - Kobuleti stretch will be repaired.
