Cummins said that Conexpo 2014 represents the biggest ever presence by the company at a construction equipment show, with over 29,828kW installed in more than 180 machines at the show. Terex president and CEO Ron De Feo was in an upbeat mood at the manufacturer’s Conexpo press conference this week saying “2013 was a year of pretty substantial improvement for our company.” In the second half of last year, Terex saw revenues grow by 6.1% with the figure for the whole year up by 1.5%. A high-sulphur fuel capability has been announced by MTU for its industrial engines. The move enables OEM’s to adopt the latest MTU engine technology in countries where ultra-low sulphur diesel (ULSD) is not available. Deutz has adopted a dual SCR after-treatment system on its high output TCD Vee engines to meet Tier 4 final emissions standards. Using a dual SCR system, the water-cooled 90-degree V6 12litre and V8 16litre engines, with power outputs from 390-520kW, were found not to require cooled EGR, DOC or DPF technologies. Compared to a similar engine using cooled EGR, Deutz said its TCD12 and TCD16 can operate with a cooling package that is around 20-25% smaller, improving installation packaging for OEMs.

Cummins Emissions Solutions, a division of Cummins, used Conexpo to introduce a range of EcoFit urea tanks and lines for those adopting SCR after-treatment systems. EcoFit includes four tank capacities – 19, 38, 57 and 114litres – including two different shape profiles for additional installation flexibility. The portfolio also includes electrically heated pressure, suction and throttle line lengths from 500mm to 3m.
