TISPOL plans road safety day

The Pan-European police body TISPOL is planning the first ‘European Day Without A Road Death’. Named EDWARD, this is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 21st September 2016. A donation from GEM will help finance publicity material and a kick-off event at which road safety professionals can share ideas and agree on ways of attracting positive coverage for Project EDWARD and for road safety in general.

Jean-Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission, has met with road safety and road victims groups to discuss the future of European road safety targets. Representatives of the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) and the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims (FEVR) discussed a campaign calling for a new European target to reduce serious road injuries, alongside an existing target to reduce deaths by half by 2020.

UK road safety sees good and bad

There is both good and bad to be seen in the latest data on UK road safety from the Department for Transport (DfT). For the year ending September 2015 there were 23,700 killed or seriously injured (KSI) casualties, a 3% decrease compared with the previous year. Italy seeing growth in construction machine sales

The Italian manufacturers of construction machines are seeing positive developments in market demand for off highway equipment. In 2015, construction equipment sales in the Italian market increased by 34% to 9,138 units, compared to the previous year. The sales results show that 8,813 earthmoving machines were sold, a growth of 32%, while 325 road machines were sold, a growth of 180%.
