A new agreement between IHI and Kato will see the two firms joining their construction machine operations together. IHI Corporation (IHI) announced has agreed to transfer all the shares in its wholly‐owned IHI Construction Machinery business to Kato Works. Sacyr subsidiary Sacyr Concesiones is leading a consortium to will build and operate the Road 2 and Road 7 routes in Paraguay. The Road 2 route will connect Asunción and Coronel Oviedo. Meanwhile the Road 7 route will run from Coronel Oviedo to Caaguazú. Construction is expected to cost US$520 million with the concession package being for a period of 30 years. Major expressway projects are now moving forward in the Philippines, with building due to start in the first quarter of 2017. Metro Pacific is gearing up to commence construction of the C5 Link Expressway. Meanwhile Metro Pacific Investments Corp (MPIC) has plans to commence construction of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway. Funding sources are now being secured for Indonesia’s massive Trans Java toll project. A portion of the financing is being delivered by Sarana Multi Infrastuktur, Taspen, and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. Part of the financing package will also be sourced from pension funds such as BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and Taspen. The project will be carried out by Waskita Toll Road.

The Chinese Province of Guizhou has a plan to construct no less than 32 new highways, with the construction work expected to be complete by 2022. In all the new highways will measure a total length of 2,428km. Work is starting in 2016 on three of the highways, which will total 222km in all. A further 10 highway projects are due to start construction in 2017 and will measure a total of 790km. India’s federal government has sanctioned the construction or upgrading of 2,500km of national level roads in Telangana state. Work should include another ring road around the capital Hyderabad, according to a report in the Times of India newspaper. The head of the state government, chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, said state planning officials will need to come up with a detailed forward plan for transportation in the new state. Serbia will cooperate with Albania on construction of the proposed Nis-Merdare-Prishtina motorway, according to media reports. Serbian vice president and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Zorana Mihajlovic, said that the motorway will be part of a larger project to give faster access, through Pristina, capital of Kosovo, to Albania’s Adriatic Sea port of Drac.

Construction of the €356 million Presov motorway bypass should start in the spring, according Arpad Ersek, Slovakia’s minister for transport. However, no contract has been finalised with the winner of the tender, the consortium of Metrostav Slovakia, Metrostav, Doprastav, and Eurovia.

The Polish government said that it will complete the final 80km section of the A1 motorway at a cost of around €830 million. Money will come out of the National Road fund (KFD), according to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Construction. Analysis into traffic crashes in India has revealed that only around half of the country’s road deaths in 2015/2016 resulted in insurance claims. There were around 146,000 road fatalities in India during this period. The problem has been revealed by India’s Supreme Court. A new bridge project in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City will help cut traffic congestion. The project is expected to cost in the region of US$157 million and four contractors will work on the construction of the 3.2km long Bình Tiên Bridge. The plans call for the bridge to carry four traffic lanes and be from 30-40m wide, although the design has yet to be finalised. Volvo Construction Equipment has seen its sales dip 2% in the third quarter of 2016, following a strong year. However the profit margins have improved despite the flat sales volumes in the third quarter.
