The tender process is being planned for a major bridge project in Brazil.

Financing has been secured to help pay for rebuilding of the Dome to Kitase road in Ghana’s capital Accra. A US$24 million loan from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) will pay for the work. Upgrading the route will help improve transport on the northern side of Accra and develop the local economy.

Approval has been given to commence construction on two stretches of the highway connecting Moscow with Kazan.

The plans calls for 14 projects in Nigeria, including the construction of new links, improving existing routes, widening roads and building bridges. These contracts are worth over US$457 million in all and have been given approval by the country’s Federal Executive Council (FEC). A new expressway connecting the Chinese cities of Guangzhou and Zhongshan is being planned. Work will commence in 2020 and the project has an estimated cost of US$3.06 billion. The route will also connect with the highway connecting Zhongshan to Shenzhen. The expressway will run between the south of Nansha and the west of Zhongshan. It is expected to open to traffic in 2024.

The Canadian province of British Columbia could put options for a Massey Tunnel replacement out to consultation late this year or early next. A statement from the BC ministry of transportation and infrastructure said the government is in discussions with various stakeholders about which options it will put out for consultation. Belgian specialist steel producer NLMK has supplied the material used for a distinctive new artwork constructed along a major highway.

A series of improvement works are being carried out in various parts of Florida, in a bid to improve traffic flow. Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is starting work to widen the 11km stretch of Florida Turnpike between Boynton Beach Boulevard and Lake Worth Road. This project will see the highway stretch being widened so that it boosts capacity, with the Hypoluxo Bridge also having to be rebuilt accordingly. Work is now complete on Lithuania’s Panevėžys bypass, which has been widened so that it features three lanes in either direction. This 22km road rebuilding project was carried out by local contractor, Panevezio Keliai, in a deal worth €44.6 million. Financing for the work was provided jointly by the EU and the local authorities. Brazil is launching the tendering process for a series of road projects that extend a total of 16,000km. These projects are being planned to open for tender by 2021. From 7,000-8,000km of road projects will open for tender in 2020 and another 8,000km will open to tender in 2021. In addition a number of other road projects will open to tender in 2022. Belarus has plans for rebuilding of 12 bridges and an important highway stretch. The bridges and highway section form part of the M3 route connecting capital Minsk with the city of Vitebsk in the north east of the country. The project is expected to cost €375 million.
