The construction of the 14.4km D1 motorway stretch between Budimir - Bidovce near Kosice in eastern Slovakia could begin in 2014 or 2015. Building works for the Budimir-Bidovce D1 route should take three years, followed by the construction of another stretch of the D1 from Bidovce up to the Ukrainian border. The European Investment Bank (EIB) is providing financial backing worth €144 million for the new M17/M18 Gort-Tuam motorway project.
