Construction of Morocco’s longest road viaduct is due for completion in mid-2027. The viaduct is costing $152 million to build, spanning Oued Sakia El Hamra and lies on the RN1 expressway that links Tiznit with Dakhra. The project is one of many in Morocco at present, with the country engaged in a significant transport infrastructure expansion programme.

Work started on the viaduct in 2024 and it will measure 1,648m in length and 21m wide when complete. It is designed to carry two lanes of traffic in either direction, as well as facilities for pedestrians and the structure features 15 spans that sit on bored piles.

The work is being managed by Morocco’s Ministry of Equipment and Water, with the 1,055km Tiznit-Dakhla Expressway project costing a total $988 million. The stretch from Laâyoune to Dakhla was completed first and the project is intended to improve transport in South Morocco and Western Sahara.
