The Philippines is setting major targets for road development in coming years. A planned budget of US$2.59 billion has been set for infrastructure in the city of Luzon for 2015. And the Department of Public Works and Highways plans to pave some 32,227km of the country's national roads by 2016, with only 83% so far having been paved. Vietnam continues to buck the trend for most Asian countries by managing to reduce its road death toll. Right across Asia vehicle numbers are increasing and in many, if not most countries road death rates are growing fast. However Vietnam is having considerable success in lowering its annual road death toll. New data shows that since 2011, the country has managed to cut crashes by 19.5% while road deaths have dropped by 7%/year.
A new 225km expressway link in Vietnam will help boost connectivity between the Mekong Delta area in the south east of the country and Ha Tien Province. The project for the Ha Tien-Rach Gia-Bac Lieu expressway is expected to cost US$1.2 billion. The expressway will feature two lanes in either direction and will also connect with Vietnam’s National Highway 1A.
Key road construction projects are now moving forward in Bosnia with work on-track for the Sarajevo ringroad as well as the Corridor Vc highway. Construction of a 130km section of the Corridor Vc highway should be complete by 2014 according to Bosnia's Ministry of Transport and Telecoms. Work on the first section of the Sarajevo ringroad should be completed within five months, following the signing of an agreement worth €17 million between the Austrian firm Strabag and the Bosnian company HP Investing.
