Uzbekistan 2013 road construction and repair works to cost around US$464.5mn
Around US$464.5 million is due to be spent building or upgrading more than 520km of roads in Uzbekistan during 2013, according to national road construction company Uzavtoyul. The extra-budgetary regional road fund will pay for the works.

Russia’s road building and upgrading programme is now gathering pace. Russia's Federal Highway Agency plans to bring over 85% of federal roads into conformity with road traffic regulations. The Federal Highway Agency has boosted construction of rural roads by establishing road funds and built over 500km in 2011.
All around the world, road expansion and maintenance is both necessary and ongoing. In the developed nations the focus is more on road maintenance and widening, while developing nations are concentrating on new road construction. Road networks are crucial to economic development as well as political stability, which often go hand in hand. A further US$94.08 million (£60mn) is to be spent on fixing the Hammersmith flyover “monstrosity” in west London, England. Transport for London (TfL) is to fund a second phase of repairs to the structure’s badly corroded arches due to start in October 2013. The flyover was shut to all traffic just before Christmas 2011 to allow initial emergency arch repairs – leading to huge traffic chaos in west London – before being partially reopened a few weeks later. It was not fully opened until late May 2012.
