US $1.2bn Zhoukou-Zhengzhou, China highway construction begins

Work has begun on constructing a US $ 1.2 billion 144km highway between Zhengzhou and Zhoukou in China. The highway has a designed speed of 120km/hour and a width of 28m.
Austrian state-owned motorway operator Asfinag says it will invest US$ 1.28 billion (€960mn) in motorways and highways in 2013. This includes $466.65 million for maintenance. The rest is for new roads and extensions of existing ones. A total of $9.19 billion will be spent between now and 2018. The company said that its debts will rise from $15.73 billion to $15.99 billion. One focus will be on improving the safety of tunnels. Asfinag will also make an effort to avoid construction-related traffic jams.
Transportation infrastructure, including many roads, in three autonomous states in China's Guizhou province will be enhanced by 2018.
The state of Qiandongnan, Qiannan and Qianxinan will get a new 1,150km highway as well as 634km of new rail line, including high-speed routes.
The states will also be served by more air routes and get an expansion of Xingyi Wanfenglin airport as well construction of a new airport, Luodian.

A series of major road and bridge projects is now underway in India. US$327.4 million has been spent on rebuilding existing roads and building new links in the Baja California region. Maintenance has been carried out on 1,873km of Mexico’s Federal Road network. A further $120 million has been used to upgrade the border link between Tijuana Airport and the city of San Diego in the US state of California.
