US $1.2bn Zhoukou-Zhengzhou, China highway construction begins

Work has begun on constructing a US $ 1.2 billion 144km highway between Zhengzhou and Zhoukou in China. The highway has a designed speed of 120km/hour and a width of 28m.
Construction of a new junction on the M1 near Dunstable in Bedfordshire is starting in the UK. The new junction, junction 11A, is located just to the south of Toddington services and forms part of a new €225 million link road between the A5 and the M1 that will help to unlock growth and reduce congestion in the area. Work on the link road began in March.
In China Chongqing municipality has announced plans to invest close to US$12 billion (74.5 billion RMB) in transportation developments in 2015. Chongqing plans to spend $5.97 billion (37.1 billion RMB) in road construction, including 5,000km of rural roads while three new highways are due for completion in 2015. Other transport investments including spending boosting the rail network in the city by 155km and developing civil aviation.
Work on Algeria’s long running East-West highway project should be complete by mid-October 2015. The Algerian Ministry for Public Works, has said that the final 120km of road should be ready by mid-October at the latest. This will be the last section of the final stretch of the 1,200km East-West highway to open to traffic.
