Work has begun on constructing a US $ 1.2 billion 144km highway between Zhengzhou and Zhoukou in China. The highway has a designed speed of 120km/hour and a width of 28m.
After a long series of delays, the US Government has finally managed to agree the latest highway reauthorisation bill. This comes after numerous short term extensions of the previous bill, due to political stalemate. The short term extensions were not sufficient to allow firms to invest and this situation stunted construction activity in the country. With the bill now in place, contractors will be able to look forward to some transport spending, and will likely increase spending on replacing old constructio
Indonesian firm Citra is to construct the South Metro Manila Skyway Stage 4 highway project and the Skyway Stage 3 project in the Philippines. In all Citra plans spending a total of US$1.5 billion on its works in the Philippines.
The Romanian National Company for Highways (CNADNR) is commissioning a study for an important new road link. The proposed connection would link the existing Sibiu bypass with the Pitesti bypass. Italian firm Spea Ingineria Europea and Romanian firm Tecnic Consulting Engineering have formed a joint venture to handle the €6.5 million feasibility study into the project.
