The Austrian group 945 Strabag has been awarded a two-year contract worth €34.6mn for the modernisation of a 48km stretch of the national road M2 in the Republic of Moldova. The upgrade route runs between Ghindesti and Drochia.
Argentina is planning two new highway projects to widen and improve key sections of Route 40 and Route 33. A US$291 million project will upgrade a stretch of the existing Route 40 to highway status. The two year project will see the widening of the road between Mendoza and San Juan and the construction work will start in the third quarter of 2017. A total of 29 transport projects costing a combined US$7.42 billion, including the Phan Thiet-Nha Trang road, will be carried out in Vietnam from 2013 until 2016, according to the country’s Ministry of Transport. Of the 29 projects, 18 projects worth $2.34 billion collectively were due to be commissioned by the end of 2013.
The ministry has said that the projects are supported by the government of Japan through $6 billion of ODA funds, including around $774.59 million for 2013.

Lebuhraya Borneo Utara, the project delivery partner for Malaysia’s Pan Borneo Highway project, has awarded a US$317.5 million contract to a joint venture of local Sarawak state firms. The 70:30 partnership of KKB and WCT will rehabilitate and upgrade the Sungai Arip Bridge-Bintulu Airport Junction section of the highway. Piling works, earthworks, geotechnical, drainage, roads, pavings, as well as demolition and site clearance are all part of the contract, said WCT.
