The Austrian group 945 Strabag has been awarded a two-year contract worth €34.6mn for the modernisation of a 48km stretch of the national road M2 in the Republic of Moldova. The upgrade route runs between Ghindesti and Drochia.
Austrian contractor STRABAG is heading a consortium handling work to complete a section of Poland’s A4 highway between Krzyż and Dębica Pustynia. STRABAG’s subsidiary Heilit+Woerner is responsible for the contract, which was awarded by Poland’s General Directorate for National Roads and Highways (GDDKiA). The contract is worth €236 million (PLN 981 million), of which Heilit+Woerner has a 50% share. The work will be carried out over a 35km section of the route over and 18 month period. Strabag has nudged into the lead for Poland’s retender of the dual lane S8 section between the Marki and Kobylka junctions, previously held by Salini-Impreglio.
Five offers were on the table for the deal with Strabag offering €38 million, well above the €32 million that was budgeted for by GDDKiA, Poland’s road authority.

In Romania the road authorities have signed a deal for the construction of a 22km stretch of highway in a contract worth €91 million. The Portuguese contractor Monte Adriano will construct the section linking Nadlac with Pecica. Romania has pledged to improve and expand its highway network with the construction of new links, and much of the funding for its highway plans has been provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
