The Austrian group 945 Strabag has been awarded a two-year contract worth €34.6mn for the modernisation of a 48km stretch of the national road M2 in the Republic of Moldova. The upgrade route runs between Ghindesti and Drochia.
Plans are moving forward for two key highway projects in Poland. The Polish General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) says that the best offer for the construction of the Rzeszow - Jaroslaw section of the A4 highway has been submitted by a consortium comprising contractors Budimex and Strabag. Construction of the 5.6km stretch of the D3 motorway Cadca, Bukov - Svrcinovec in Slovakia could start by the end of the year.
The tender was rolled out in May 2015 by the Slovak national motorway operator NDS and the final contract was recently signed for the €239million deal. Winners are the consortium of Hochtief from Germany and Austrian firms Strabag and PORR. Completion is schedule for 2020.

In Serbia plans are moving forward for the Corridor 11 highway. The contract for the 48km of highway looks set to be carried out under a concession model by Chinese companies. The deal will also involve the 103km Obrenovac-Preljina highway. The cost of the Corridor 11 highway project has not yet been disclosed. A decision has yet to be made regarding the Horgos-Belgrade-Pozega highway. Part of this route was to be built under a concession awarded to Alpine and Porr and this deal included work on some 250km
