Speed checks for Europe

Police forces right across Europe will be working together to enforce speed limits during this week. A 24 hour blitz on speeding will be carried out from 0600 on Thursday 21st April to 0600 on Friday 22nd April. The 24-hour initiative forms part of TISPOL’s week-long speed enforcement operation, running until Sunday 24th April. Police forces right across Europe will be working together to enforce speed limits during this week. A 24 hour blitz on speeding will be carried out from 0600 on Thursday 21st April to 0600 on Friday 22nd April. The 24-hour initiative forms part of 4753 TISPOL’s week-long speed enforcement operation, running until Sunday 24th April.

The Speed Marathon concept was initially established two years ago in the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. TISPOL President Aidan Reid comments: “Our forthcoming speed enforcement activity is all about prevention. We want drivers to think about the speeds they choose; speeds which are both legal and appropriate for the conditions. By doing so, they will be reducing the risks they face and the risks they pose to other road users.

    Pan-European moves to tackle drink driving reveal that many still take to the wheel while over the limit for alcohol. The results from week-long operation to address drink driving run in June show that there were 16,497 alcohol offences from 1,104,879 breath tests in 26 countries.     Action across Europe has seen police crackdown heavily on drink driving offences during December 2013. Information from the Pan-European police body TISPOL shows that 1,141,058 roadside breath tests were carried out to check for alcohol use, with 15,305 showing positive.   • Pan-European speeding enforcement yields success

    A recent Pan-European police operation to enforce laws on speeding has yielded major success. Over 720,000 drivers were detected breaking speed limits in the operation, which was co-orcinated by the European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL) in 28 countries. Of the 728,268 detections, 274,355 were made directly by police officers and 453,913 came from automatic speed detectors.
