Spanish motorway operators put forward US$1.82bn investment plan

Around US$1.82 billion (€1.34bn) may be spent improving Spain’s motorway network, according to an investment plan submitted to the Ministry of Development by Aseta, the national motorway operators’ association. Execution of the plan submitted on behalf of Itinere, Abertis and Ferrovial would be in exchange for an extension on the management contracts on their managed motorways, or a raise in toll charges. Around US$1.82 billion (€1.34bn) may be spent improving Spain’s motorway network, according to an investment plan submitted to the Ministry of Development by 5726 Aseta, the national motorway operators’ association.

Execution of the plan submitted on behalf of 5728 Itinere, 5729 Abertis and 2717 Ferrovial would be in exchange for an extension on the management contracts on their managed motorways, or a raise in toll charges. Works would start immediately and would create some 25,000 jobs. Itinere is preparing to invest €744 million, Abertis €447 million, and 930 Cintra (Ferrovial) €144 million, accounting for 70% of the Ministry's budget on motorways in 2013. They have guaranteed a tax return for the State of €761 million.
