The authorities in Russia’s Krasnodar Region intend to boost financing for regional highways and rural roads in 2012.

The authorities in Russia’s Krasnodar Region intend to boost financing for regional highways and rural roads in 2012. In 2011 some US$235 million was spent on regional highways in Krasnodar but this will be increased to $436 million for 2012. Meanwhile around $100.6 million will be spent on upgrading rural roads in Krasnodar. In all some 1,000km of roads will be improved and repaired under the 2012 plans.

    A report by Goldman Sachs reveals Russia’s requirement for further infrastructure investment. The report, Russian Infrastructure and Construction, shows that investments in transport corresponded to 1.5-1.7% of GDP in 2005-2010. For Russia’s total infrastructure needs, including power networks and communications, spending equated to 3.7-4.3% of GDP.     In Canada the British Colombia Government has announced a programme of road and highway upgrades worth a total of US$1.99 billion (C$2.5 billion).
