The tender process is opening in Romania for the new Cernavoda-Medgidia highway.

The tender process is opening in Romania for the new Cernavoda-Medgidia highway. This 19km project will cost in the region of €122.3 million - €171.2 million, with the tender stage due to close at the end of May 2011. Work on the project is expected to commence in 2012. The project has so far been subject to a series of delays with an earlier contract for the work with a French contractor having been cancelled and the bidding process then restarted. Romania's highway building programme has had a sluggish start despite considerable investment in feasibility studies. The country is widely acknowledged as having one of the worst road networks in Europe with a desperate need for redevelopment to help boost its economy.
