The Romanian road authorities are trying hard to get the country's network improvement plans back on track. The National Roads and Highways Company (2870 CNADNR) has recently signed a further five new contracts for the construction of highway segments. These will form part of the Pan-European Corridor IV and the total value of the deals is close to €693 million, including VAT. A consortium formed by Spedition UMB-Tehnostrade-Carena Impresa di Costruzioni was awarded a contract worth nearly €64 million to build a 10km segment of the Timisoara-Lugoj highway. Romstrade-2753 Monte Adriano Engenharia e Construcao-Donep Construct consortium won a contract worth €116 million to build a segment of the Nadlac-Arad highway. Another segment of this highway measuring 16.6km will be built by Austrian contractor Alpine Bau for €124.5 million. A consortium formed by Tirrena Scavi-Societa Italiana per Condotte d'Acqua-Cossi Construzioni will build the first segment of the Lugoj-Deva highway for €206 million. And Italian firm 3149 Impregilo was awarded a contract worth €183 million contract to build a segment of the Orastie-Sibiu highway.
