Portuguese firm wins Mozambique deal

A new road project in Mozambique will see the rebuilding of the link between Namialo and Rio Lúrio, in Nampula province.

A new road project in Mozambique will see the rebuilding of the link between Namialo and Rio Lúrio, in Nampula province. The work will be carried out by a Portuguese contractor, 2753 Monte Adriano. The contract involves rebuilding the main road connecting Namialo with Rio Lúrio and the work has come about through the assistance of the Millenium Challenge Account. The rebuilding project is estimated to be worth close to US$50 million.

The funding will be aimed at upgrades to roads in Mozambique’s Nampula Province and Zambezia Province. Meanwhile Talhabel has a contract worth $28.73 million to upgrade the road 230 in the stretch between Muriege and Chiluage, which is close to the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

    Two new roads are now being built in Mozambique by Portuguese firm Mota Engil Engenharia. The total package is worth some US$148 million (€116 million). These two roads are the latest in a series of contracts Mota Engil Engenharia has won in Mozambique during 2010. The company is already carrying out some €165 million of work on road, bridge and other infrastructure projects.
