Portuguese firm wins Mozambique deal

A new road project in Mozambique will see the rebuilding of the link between Namialo and Rio Lúrio, in Nampula province.

A new road project in Mozambique will see the rebuilding of the link between Namialo and Rio Lúrio, in Nampula province. The work will be carried out by a Portuguese contractor, 2753 Monte Adriano. The contract involves rebuilding the main road connecting Namialo with Rio Lúrio and the work has come about through the assistance of the Millenium Challenge Account. The rebuilding project is estimated to be worth close to US$50 million.

    An ambitious road improvement scheme has been proposed by the Mozambique Government. The programme of works calls for the paving of 2,100km of roads by 2019. The scheme will address both national and regional roads across the country between 2015 and 2019, covering around 420km/year of roads on average.     A series of major road projects will be carried out by Portuguese contractor Mota Engil in Angola and Brazil. In all the work is worth in excess of US$419 million. The company is building a 10km section of the Via Expressa around capital Luanda, as well as upgrading another key route in the city.
