A Chinese contractor is to build a major expressway link in Nigeria. The contract is for a 15km section of highway. The work will be handled by 890 China Railway Construction.
In Russia the construction firms Hanty-Mansiyskdorstroy and Volgomost are working on contracts to rebuild the important M5 highway. This route lies motorway in the Republic of Bashkortostan (Volga) and is managed by Samara-Ufa-Chelyabinsk. Hanty-Mansiyskdorstroy’s contract is to rebuild a 15km stretch of the highway and is worth US$128.16 million, with the work due for completion by October 2016. Huge investments are being made in major road construction projects for North Africa. The biggest is the 'Autoroute Transmaghrébine' highway, which is also Africa's largest ever road construction project. Once complete, the highway will connect the Maghreb states of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya and will have a total length of 3,200km.
Six XCMG crawler cranes are working hard on the construction of the Padma Bridge in Bangladesh. This is a landmark project for Bangladesh, as the 6.15km structure will provide a new link between the south-west of the country and the northern and eastern regions.
When the bridge is complete it will connect Louhajong, Munshiganj to Shariatpur and Madaripur. In addition to the main bridge section, there is an additional 3.8km approach bridge, which is also very important to the project.
