A Chinese contractor is to build a major expressway link in Nigeria. The contract is for a 15km section of highway. The work will be handled by 890 China Railway Construction.
Ethiopia is setting a target of 2020 to complete its road expansion programme. The plan has been to double the length of the country’s road network in the period from 2015 to 2020. At present Ethiopia has around 121,200km of roads, compared with around 100,000km of roads in 2015. But by 2020, the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) aims to expand the network to 200,000km.
Austrian contractor STRABAG is heading a consortium handling work to complete a section of Poland’s A4 highway between Krzyż and Dębica Pustynia. STRABAG’s subsidiary Heilit+Woerner is responsible for the contract, which was awarded by Poland’s General Directorate for National Roads and Highways (GDDKiA). The contract is worth €236 million (PLN 981 million), of which Heilit+Woerner has a 50% share. The work will be carried out over a 35km section of the route over and 18 month period. The Chinese authorities are at present keen to increase the use of RAP in road building, in a bid to reduce the environmental impact of construction projects. However for this to be carried out, the high RAP-content mix must meet high quality standards.
