5895 New Holland will be showing INTERMAT 2012 visitors its new Smart Fleet telematics system, which will be available from June.

Smart Fleet will allow construction businesses to track and monitor the performance of every unit in their fleet to optimise equipment usage and resources.

Features of the system include improved security with GPS tracking, ‘geo-fencing’, ‘time-fencing’ and motion detection so that owners can be alerted to unauthorised use of the machine. An engine re-start prevention function will also be available on selected models.

The system has been designed to help optimised fleet productivity by mapping of each vehicle’s activities and producing regular reports of its working status. New Holland said that this means lower maintenance costs with automatic management of planned services and scheduled alerts. It also said that resale values will be higher, resulting from an optimal maintenance regime.

The Smart Fleet telematics system is designed to give the fleet manager a complete picture of where every unit is and what it is doing. The manager can also access the maintenance information on each unit and develop and run their maintenance plans.

The data collected from the machine and GPS satellites by the Smart Fleet system is transmitted through the mobile networks to the New Holland Telematics Web Portal, where the fleet manager will be able to view the information. Regular updates will be provided about the location of each machine. It will be possible to ‘geo-fence’ the units so that an alert is sent out if one is taken out of a predetermined area. Unauthorised use of the machines can also be prevented by setting up a working curfew and motion detection service.

New Holland said that the fleet manager will be able to optimise usage by identifying under- or over-used machines.  They will also be able to access the maintenance information of every unit in their fleet from their desk and receive alerts when a machine is due for service.  Customers can order the Smart Fleet system from their New Holland dealer and have it retro-fitted to existing machines in their fleet or have it fitted on a new model, which will come pre-wired from the factory.
