Myanmar project deal

Work on the Myanmar section of the Stilwell Road will be carried out by Chinese contractor Yunnan Construction Engineering Group (YCEG). The deal is worth some US$498 million and the project is for a 375km stretch of highway. YCEG will carry out the project in partnership with the Yuzana Group. The deal is of note as it will improve Myanmar's international links with its neighbours.

    In South Korea a contractor has been awarded the deal to construct and important new stretch of highway. The US$263.3 million deal is for a section of the Seoul-Sejong expressway. Hanwha Engineering & Construction (Hanwha E&C) will construct the section of the route in Gyeonggi Province. In all the new route will measure some 129km when complete and will connect Guri in Gyeonggi Province to Sejong. This will be one of several new highways running from north to south in South Korea.

    Cambodia is continuing with the construction of a key highway project. Work is now underway on building National Road No58. The project has been by a number of Chinese companies, which are investing some US$122 million into the 174km road. The new road will link Samrong city in Uddor Meanchey Province with Poipet City in Banteay Meanchey Province. Construction is being carried out by Chinese contractor Shanghai Construction (Group) General Company. Completion of the construction work is scheduled for August

    Work is now complete on Lithuania’s Panevėžys bypass, which has been widened so that it features three lanes in either direction. This 22km road rebuilding project was carried out by local contractor, Panevezio Keliai, in a deal worth €44.6 million. Financing for the work was provided jointly by the EU and the local authorities. A novel feature of the project is that traffic lanes are reversible to help reduce congestion at peak periods and account for traffic flow. The project forms part of the wider plan
