Mexican highway deal

Spanish construction firm OHL presented an offer to operate the 56km Guadalajara-Colima motorway in Mexico for 12 years. Spanish construction firm 980 OHL presented an offer to operate the 56km Guadalajara-Colima motorway in Mexico for 12 years. The motorway is being heavily restructured, with the expansion of its four lanes. The first phase of these works has already been completed and investment to date has totalled US $54.81million. A further $263.66 million is being invested by 6536 Banobras on current works. All offers to operate the Guadalajara-Colima motorway were due for presentation by mid-September 2012. 5494 OHL Mexico has committed to an investment of $3.73 million in Mexico, with 360km of motorway in operation via Grupo Autopistas Nacionales, Autovias Concesionados de OHL, Autopista Urbana Norte, Concesionaria Mexiquense and Viaducto Bicentenario.

    The Mexico’s Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT) has confirmed that a total of 1,474 road infrastructure contracts were granted in the first half of 2015. This work is costing in the region of US$1.02 billion. A total of 74% of these contracts were awarded to Mexican companies, whilst 26% corresponded to foreign firms. SCT informed that 31 projects were concluded so far in 2015 and added that 12 additional initiatives were expected to be completed by the end of the year.

    Plans are being drawn up for the link that will connect Mexico City International Airport (AICM) with Santa Lucia airfield. The new link between the terminals will be some 30km long. Various options are being considered, including an extension to the existing Viaducto Bicentenario highway and Chamapa-Circuito Exterior Mexiquense distributor road.     The European Investment Bank (EIB) is reported to be in talks with the sponsors of the A-66 Benavente-Zamora highway public private partnership (PPP) in Spain over a possible bond financing deal, which would see the Bank provide subordinated debt for an A-rated bond issue. The possible bond issue would be a further greenfield project to launch the European Union’s Project Bond 2020 initiative, with its initial pilot stage being managed by the EIB.
