Construction work on new Mexican motorway link is underway

In Mexico work is now underway on the La Marquesa-Toluca highway. The project is costing some US$269.5 million in all. The construction is due for completion in December 2015. The work is being carried out jointly on the first stretch of the highway by Spanish contractor OHL working in partnership with local company La Peninsular.

    Spanish firm OHL’s subsidiary, OHL Concesiones, will carry out a series of highway projects in Mexico. The company has a loan facility of US$404.6 million to carry out highway work in Mexico. At present OHL operates six highway concessions in Mexico. Three of these highways are open to traffic, with a further two under construction at present and work on the last due to commence shortly.

    Interest has been strong for a Mexican highway contract. In all 13 companies are considering bidding for the Tuxpan-Tampico highway concession in Veracruz state, reports Business News Americas.     Construction work is now commencing on the second level of the key Mexico City-Puebla highway. The project is costing some US$766.4 million, with funding being sourced jointly from federal and regional governments as well as a number of private investors. The highway is being built by a number of firms including OHL and Pinfra. The construction project is expected to require 24 months to complete.
