Work is now commencing on a new highway megaproject in China. The 204km highway will be built in China’s Hebei Province and will cost around US$4.09 billion to construct. The project forms part of a network of expressways in Chengzhang.
Financing looks to have been secured for major tolled highway projects in Indonesia. These highways are the 129km Pekan Baru-Dumai route, which forms part of the Trans-Sumatra highway, the 60.5km Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan (Cisumwadu) road and the 39km Manado-Bitung route. A loan from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) worth some US$370.2 million is expected to provide around half of the financing required for the Pekan Baru-Dumai route. The tender process is now complete for the Shantou Bay Crossing in China. This link will be 10km long and will connect the East Coast Expressway with the Haojiang Guangda Expressway. The project is expected to cost US$1.27 billion to construct. The new link will improve transport connections close to Shantou City in China’s Guangdong Province, reducing journey times for drivers using the existing routes.
Construction work is now underway on the interchange for the second highway connecting to China’s Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. The new highway is around 21.4km long and connects Huadu district with Tianhe district. The route features 15 bridges and has a design speed of 100km/h. The new link will improve connections between the airport and Guangzhou City and the work is costing US$1.32 billion.
