Work is now commencing on a new highway megaproject in China. The 204km highway will be built in China’s Hebei Province and will cost around US$4.09 billion to construct. The project forms part of a network of expressways in Chengzhang.
A major road project is being carried out in Cambodia to improve the transport link between the capital Phnom Penh and the port of Sihanoukville in Preah Sihanouk Province. Work on the 190km road project will cost in the region of US$1.9 billion and should take four years to complete. The road will be built as an expressway and will run alongside the existing National Road 4, which is also to benefit from $110 million of improvements. Vietnam’s impressive road development programme is now gearing up, with a series of major projects scheduled to commence in 2019. Work is starting on three key projects: the My Thuan 2 Bridge; the Cam Lo to La Son highway section; the Cao Bo to Mai Son highway section. All three of these projects will form part of the Eastern North-South Expressway, with the work being overseen by the Ministry of Transport (MOT). China’s northwest province of Shaanxi plans to increase its spending on highways by 22% to nearly US$8.9 billion, according to an official statement.
World Highways reported last year that Shaanxi was to spend nearly $5.8 billion in 2014.
Of the total, nearly $5.8 billion has been allocated for five highway construction projects totalling 261km.
Within 2015, there will be 600km of new highways in the province, raising the total highway length to over 5,000km by the end of 2015.
