Work is now commencing on a new highway megaproject in China. The 204km highway will be built in China’s Hebei Province and will cost around US$4.09 billion to construct. The project forms part of a network of expressways in Chengzhang.
In China plans are underway for a new expressway connecting Luohu and Futian districts in Shenzhen. The US$1.58 billion project still has to be approved by the authorities in Shenzhen city. Of note is the plan to build the majority of the 20.3km expressway as an underground road. Once it is complete, the new link is expected to reduce congestion in both districts. Plans are being drawn up in China for a new mega tunnel project in Guangdong Province. Details of the project, to connect Shenzhen and Zhongshan, have been released by the official Chinese news agency Xinhua. The 6.8km undersea stretch of tunnel will carry eight lanes, making it the world’s widest undersea road tunnel.
A massive tunnel project is set to commence in Malaysia shortly.
