A major new toll link will boost Indonesia’s transport connections

Construction work on the 13.6km Gempol Pandaan toll road in East Java is commencing. The US$174.5 million project will take 18 months to complete and is expected to open for traffic in the third quarter of 2013.
The Costanera Central motorway in Chile will require an investment of US$ 1.98bn, according to the country’s Ministry of Public Works (MOPC). The 20km road, which will connect Puente Alto with the Autopista del Sol motorway, will be put to tender in the final quarter of 2013. Construction is due for completion by 2019.
The state government of Victoria in Australia will pay the East West Connect consortium US$258 million to cancel construction of Melbourne’s East West Link road tunnel.
The payoff is to cover the consortium's bidding, design and pre-construction costs and draw a line under the deal that has been mired in financial controversy for years.
The federal government slammed Victoria’s decision to bail out of the project as “an obscenity’’ that will cost 7000 jobs, according to a report in The Australian news
Strong bids have been received for Chile’s Puente Industrial road bridge project, which will be built in Region VIII. Bidders included Spanish firm OHL as well as Besalco Concesiones-Concesiones Viarias Chile Tres and Sacyr Concesiones Chile. Work on the 2.5km bridge is expected to commence in 2014 and the project will cost some US$170 million to construct, with completion expected in 2017.
