Improvements are planned for the road linking the Mombasa International Airport with the Kisumu-Kakamega-Webuye-Kitale road. A loan worth US$300 million has been approved by the 2332 World Bank.
The final funding has been found for a new dual carriageway connection linking the city of Mombasa to its airport. The Transport Ministry has revealed that US$15 million is being provided for the work by Trademark East Africa, on top of the $24 million being provided by the Kenyan Government. The tender process for the project is now commencing and the size of the deal involved is being revealed shortly. A World Bank loan worth US$109 million is paying for an upgrade to the road connecting the Bolivian conurbations of Rurrenabaque and Ixiamas as well as to the airport in Rurrenabaque.
An upgrade is planned for the road connecting Uganda with Kenya at the Suam-Bukwo-Kapchorwa border crossing. The majority of the project costs will be paid for by a loan package worth US$94.5 million being provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB). The remaining $11.2 million needed for the work will be paid by the Ugandan Government. The project should take 36 months to carry out and will involve improving the 118km road that runs from Kapchorwa in Uganda to Kitale in Kenya.
The authorities in Mozambique are planning to secure loans worth US$300 million from the Export Import Bank of China (Exim Bank). The loans will be used to finance construction of the Maputo Ring Road project. Equipment procurement is scheduled for the project during first six months of 2012. The ring road project will link Maputo to the Costa do Sol neighbourhood, leading to Marracuene district.
