Kazan allocated US$263.14mn road repair budget for 2012

Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin said authorities would allocate US$263.14million to repair the city’s road network in 2012, compared to a total of $197.66million spent over the previous five years.
The Rostov region will have invested nearly US$361 million in its southern road networks this year.
Around $220 million will be spent on regional roads, including $84 million on construction and renovation, $57 million on maintenance, $43 million in repairs and $25 million on overhaul.

Shiyan City in China’s Hubei Province has seen a major increase in its road and highway network, due to significant spending on road construction in the area. Between 2011 and 2015, the total length of the road network in Shiyan City increased to 26,989km, following spending of some US$7.07 billion on road construction by the authorities. The country expects to spend US$2.99 billion on developing its road network during the 2018-2021 time period, reaching a figure of $747.5 million/year. This is a notable increase from the $694.1 million/year spent during the 2012-2017 period and even more so from the $533.9 million/year spent in the 2008-2011 period.
Highway managers in Malaysia face having their road maintenance funding slashed if they do not spend their current budgets. In a surprise announcement this week, the Malaysian government warned that states which “fail to manage and utilise funds allocated for road maintenance from the Federal Government risk having their provisions reduced in the future.”
