Road deaths in France were down 7.6% in August 2012 compared to the same month in 2011. In total, 342 people were killed in road accidents. During the first eight months of 2012, road deaths were down 8.9% compared to the same period of 2011, despite a 3.6% increase during the month of July. Between September 2011 and August 2012, the number of deaths was 3,728.
Moscow is pushing ahead with its programme of road repairs in the city and surrounding area. During 2016 some 2,100km of roads benefited from necessary repair and maintenance work. This work cost over US$162 million, with funding coming from the Moscow Regional Budget. The city’s chronic traffic congestion is made worse by the poor state of the road network in many areas of Moscow and plans are in hand to carry out repairs to address the issue. Mozambique will have to invest US$4 billion to maintain its roads and bridges over the next four years. The country’s road network does not meet demands at present, with numerous routes in poor condition. Congestion and safety are also major issues in the most densely populated urban areas. The source of the funding required has yet to be determined. The Ministry of Public Works is currently in talks with the Portuguese government to secure some of the funding needed.
