Vehicle developers will have to introduce measures to counter the potential use of autonomous vehicles by terrorists, according to Iain Forbes, head of the UK Government’s Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles.
Tensar International is building a manufacturing plant in Russia. Tensar is the majority shareholder in the joint venture, with remaining investment coming from Russian partners. Don Meltzer, chief executive of US parent company, Tensar Corporation; and Bob Vevoda, chief operating officer and president of Tensar International; met with their Russian JV partners in London earlier this month to finalise the funding and construction schedule.
A further US$94.08 million (£60mn) is to be spent on fixing the Hammersmith flyover “monstrosity” in west London, England. Transport for London (TfL) is to fund a second phase of repairs to the structure’s badly corroded arches due to start in October 2013. The flyover was shut to all traffic just before Christmas 2011 to allow initial emergency arch repairs – leading to huge traffic chaos in west London – before being partially reopened a few weeks later. It was not fully opened until late May 2012.
The very well preserved section of the old Roman Watling Street near London, UK, is the first physical proof that parts of the 2,000-year-old route survive directly beneath its modern counterpart, Old Kent Road.
