A major new road project has been completed in Dubai. The US$544.6 million project has seen upgrade work being carried out along a 17km stretch of road. Now that the work is complete it is expected to cut congestion, reducing journey times by up to 50% at peak periods.

The work has widened the Dubai-Al Ain Road link between the intersection at Emirates Road and the intersection with the Ras Al Khor Road. Included in the project has been the addition of extra lanes. The route now features three lanes in either direction. Six new interchanges have been built as well as new bridges and new on/off ramps.

The road previously had just three lanes, so doubling the lanes will also boost capacity.
