Construction works have begun on the Yichang section of China’s new Yichang-Yueyang expressway. Covering 51.8km, the Yichang expressway section will cost around US$613.35 million (CNY 3.82bn).
Construction work is now underway on the interchange for the second highway connecting to China’s Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. The new highway is around 21.4km long and connects Huadu district with Tianhe district. The route features 15 bridges and has a design speed of 100km/h. The new link will improve connections between the airport and Guangzhou City and the work is costing US$1.32 billion. A new expressway project is due to commence in China in early 2019. The work is expected to cost US$1.37 billion and involves upgrading the Meiguan Expressway. The work will be carried out over an 8km stretch between the Qinghu Flyover and Meilin Tollgate. The work involves work to 25 tunnels and eight interchange flyovers, as well as a number of pedestrian underpasses and footbridges. The project is planned to utilise the latest 3D and BIM software technology.
China’s fast growing vehicle population is posing major challenges for traffic management, especially in major urban areas. Traffic congestion is already a serious problem in the capital Beijing and other major cities; Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzen, Tianjin, Dongugan, Hangzhou and Chengdu.
