Construction starts on Yichang section of China’s Yichang-Yueyang expressway

Construction works have begun on the Yichang section of China’s new Yichang-Yueyang expressway. Covering 51.8km, the Yichang expressway section will cost around US$613.35 million (CNY 3.82bn).
A unit of China State Construction International Holdings (China State Construction) has signed a US$617.4 million (HKD 4.79bn) contract with the Highways Department of Hong Kong. The company will build a 150m long slip road tunnel beneath the Victoria Park Road and the northern area of Victoria Park. A 300m twin box tunnel section will also be built by China State Construction under the seabed of Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter, as part of the 4.5km Central-Wan Chai Bypass development.
Work is underway on the Laohekou-Gucheng-Hanjiang Bridge in Hubei Province, China. When complete the bridge will measure some 11.7km long in all, including the 4.8km long central Laohekou-Gucheng section. The project includes a 1,453m long main bridge, which is costing some US$188 million to construct. In China’s Hebei Province a total of US$14.93 billion will be invested in transport infrastructure during 2013. This will include 22 highways to allow the province to have highways totaling 5,587km by end-2013. As for ordinary trunk roads, maintenance is to be carried out on 247km of roads and works will commence on projects totaling 1,300km, with 300km to be ready for use by end-2013.
