Construction works have begun on the Yichang section of China’s new Yichang-Yueyang expressway. Covering 51.8km, the Yichang expressway section will cost around US$613.35 million (CNY 3.82bn).
Land acquisition issues have stalled the start of construction of Bratislava’s orbital road by up to eight months. Work could begin this autumn, according to a report by the Slovak Spectator, because the government is working on laws that would allow construction before all land is acquired.
The Nicaraguan Government is setting out major plans for road infrastructure development. The country's master plan for road infrastructure envisages work to a total of 4,200km of main roads across the country. This programme is expected to cost in the order of US$5.20 billion, according to pre-feasibility studies carried out by Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC). Funding is being sought at present by the Nicaraguan Government, which is in discussion with a number of bodies.
Construction work for an 82km stretch of road in Bolivia is proceeding within the planned schedule. Work on the new road should be complete in July-August 2018. The new road section will provide an improved connection from Riberalta to El Triangulo, located in Beni State in the north-east of Bolivia. Construction work is being carried out by a Chinese contractor and in all, the project is for a 508km stretch of road with the total project expected to cost US$608 million.
The Philippines might separate a 47km six-lane road construction element from a complicated land reclamation and dike development contract recently shunned by preferred bidders. None of the three qualified bidders for the Laguna Lakeshore Expressway Dike public-private partnership deal submitted final bids for the contract. There were concerns over the legality of reclaiming 700 ha of land and whether investors could make money from it.
