California redefines the term carpool

California is home to many weird and wonderful home-made vehicles, some more useful than other. But few can be as useful as the car pool table car which can do up to 160kph on the freeway. A late model %$Linker: 2 External <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?><dictionary /> 0 0 0 oLinkExternal Chevrolet Monte Carlo car Visit pool table car false http://www.msn.com/en-gb/video/watch/video/vi-AAaCRoj?ocid=OutNUK&from=OutNUK&FORM=BWVOLC false false%> is the vehicle for this particular table in the video. The car’s roof was cut off, the vehicle then chopped in half and thanks to some artful but careful welding, a pool table on car wheels was added to the rear of the assembly. An extension of the drivetrain back to the new rear wheels under the pool table and presto! A car-cum-pool table.

At the press of a button, hydraulic pads drop down from underneath the table section to raise the wheels off the ground and at the flick of a switch, the table itself is detached from the driver’s section of the vehicle, which can drive off several yards to leave the table on its levelling pads.

The basic idea is not necessarily new. Californians have for years been installing pool tables into modified car bodies for use in their homes. No engine though, just an unusual conversation piece.

Californians love their cars so the video comes with an assurance. Not one car was harmed in the making a pool table, said the creator. “In fact, we saved the vehicle for posterity.”
