Brazil highway concession awarded

A major Brazilian highway concession package has been awarded to Triunfo Participações e Investimentos (TPI). The US$3.02 billion tender is for a multiple federal highway concession package for the BR-060, BR-153 and BR-262, according to a report from Business News Americas. This deal covers some 1,177km of highway stretches, including the installation of 11 tollbooths and widening 648km of roads within a five year period. The sections of highway involved in the deal are in Brazil’s Federal District as well
Key road projects underway in East Africa

A series of road improvements and investments will improve connections in Uganda, Tanzania and Ethiopia. The World Bank is offered the Ugandan Government a loan of US$400 million to rebuild roads in Kamdini and Tororo-Soroti-Lira. Infrastructure investment plans established for Western Balkans nations

A €10 million contract from the European Commission will form the basis of work to strengthen essential infrastructure development across the Western Balkans. The Colombian authorities have plans in hand for a US$240 million highway upgrade project. In all, 10 groups have been pre-selected for the tender process for the work, according to a report by Business News Americas. The UK Government has released its National Infrastructure Plan 2013 (NIP2013) at an event held in London at the Institution of Civil Engineers (CIHT). Key highway project in Colombia faces delay

Work on a key stretch of Colombia’s Ruta del Sol highway project is behind schedule, with the route now unlikely to open to traffic before 2017. The 21.6km section of the highway facing these delays will link Villeta and Guaduas in Cundinamarca. Chinese funding for Kyrgyzstan route

A loan worth US$400 million will help fund construction of a new highway in Kyrgyzstan. The Eximbank of China is providing the loan to the Kyrgyzstan Government of Kyrgyzstan for a 20 year period, with a grace period of 11 years at an interest rate of 2%. The project is for the construction of the new North - South route. The project includes a 1.7km tunnel, which is expected to cost some $150 million.

The 851km section of highway runs through Mato Grosso state and the deal is worth some US$2 billion, according to a report by Business News Americas. As part of its contract, Odebrecht will have to widen a 454km stretch of the route within five years and is also required to build nine new toll booths.

New road and bridge investment for Guatemala

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) is providing a US$400 million loan to Guatemala for rural road construction. This follows on from a $200 million loan being provided to Guatemala by the World Bank and a $237 million loan from the IADB. The Guatemalan Government is also working on upgrading CA9 Norte highway to make it reach Mayuelas completing an 89km extension at a cost of $240 million. The authorities also have plans to replace 60-70 bridges with new structures.
