Denmark concerned over rising cost of Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link

The Danish government is in talks with contractors over the latest rise in cost estimates for the proposed prestigious Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link between Denmark and Germany. Contractors have estimated an extra €295.5 million will be needed. This is in addition to a statement last November by the contracting company Femern saying that costs had risen nearly €900 million. At least US$100 million will be injected into road projects in Honduras during 2015, the majority of which will be under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) deals. Poland: A1 tender attracts 11 offers, including one from Strabag

Construction of a 15.2km section of Poland’s A1 motorway has attracted 11 bids. A Strabag consortium made the lowest bid for the section, between Pyrzowice and Rzasawa, coming in at €146 million. A consortium formed by Polaqua and Dragados was the second lowest, at €156.4 million. The highest bid was €183.4 million. The contract calls for a construction period of 30 months. Infrastructure consultancy Louis Berger is to provide services worth US$7.6 million for the rehabilitation of Mozambique’s National Road N303. The Sub-Saharan Regional Pipeline Corporation awarded the contract for work on the 350km narrow and unpaved carriageway that crosses Tete province. The governments of Canada and the province of Ontario officially opened a new customs plaza at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, one of the busiest road crossings between the United States and Canada. The Canadian federal government provided US$8 and the province added $20 million for the project that is part of security improvements and to speed up people processing facilities on the Canadian side of the tunnel. A major programme of investment is underway on Austria’s highway network. Austrian highway company Asfinag says that it is investing some €7 billion in building new links and upgrading existing connections. This six year programme will run until 2020. Global construction equipment manufacturer Caterpillar reported full-year 2014 sales $55.184 billion, down from $55.656 billion in 2013. Caterpillar also reported fourth-quarter 2014 sales of $14.244 billion, again slightly down at 1% from $14.402 billion in the fourth quarter of 2013. Strabag reports output volume remained flat for year end 2014

Austrian construction giant Strabag reported output volume of €13.6 billion to year end 2014 was unchanged from last year. The publically listed group, with headquarters in Vienna, said declines in contracts in some countries were offset with increases in the home markets of Germany and Austria, despite a “very restrained tender award policy” for the public sector. Large projects were completed in Romania and Russia at the same time that newly acquired orders in these markets have not yet come on stream.
Innovative road/drainage tunnel plan for Jakarta

An innovative combined road and drainage tunnel is being proposed for Indonesia’s capital Jakarta. A study is underway at the moment for this novel integrated tunnel project, which is expected to cost in the region of US$1.88 billion. Work is due to commence during 2015, with the initial phase of the construction being carried out by Antaredja Mulia Jaya.
