BOMAG's new BF 600P, a 17tonne asphalt paving machine ideal for jobs up to 6.85m, has been launched in the UK. With a maximum production rate of 600tonnes/ hour, its launch coincides with the introduction of a new two-year warranty for BOMAG pavers bought in the UK. The completely new BF 600P was designed and developed by BOMAG Alfonsine (Italy), and the first machine in the UK went straight to work on customer demonstrations around the UK.

The highway is being built by Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, known as the Maghreb region (in Arabic: the West), as well as in Libya. Construction of the longest section, the one running through Algeria and extending over 1,200km, began in March 2007 and is scheduled due for completion shortly.

Following a programme of road surface retexturing at five sites to improve skidresistance, Aberdeenshire Council in Scotland has seen a 100% reduction in crashes and loss of control incidents since the treatment. Retexturing specialist Klaruw carried out the work, totalling around 18,000m², using its KlaruwTex190 (K190) all-weather, controlled bush

Dynapac is offering four new tandem rollers aimed at asphalt compaction duties that extends its range in the 7-13tonne class to eight models in all. These machines have been developed to provide a high quality surface finish, while being efficient to run with low maintenance needs and easy servicing.

ASI Solutions has developed a fast pothole repair technique in the shape of its Rhinopatch process. This comes with a life-time guarantee and is said to offer a fast repair solution when a pothole or other road surface defect fails. The firm says that using this technique means that there is no need for a works team to re-visit a site and further disrupt traffic. The solution is to provide a road repair using replacement material of a superior quality to the existing road surface and to eliminate any joints

Huge investments are being made in major road construction projects for North Africa. The biggest is the 'Autoroute Transmaghrébine' highway, which is also Africa's largest ever road construction project. Once complete, the highway will connect the Maghreb states of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya and will have a total length of 3,200km.
